At Auskids Learning, we believe in a child directed curriculum. It is important to us as educarers to involve children in their learning. This means, carefully and regularly observing the children and allowing ourselves to be guided by their observations and reactions to their environment. This is called a negotiated emergent curriculum. Literally, emergent means evolving. Negotiate means to discuss. By following and planning a negotiated emergent curriculum, and setting out invitations to learn, children are creating an environment that interests them. Educarers are enhancing that creativity by providing the children with resources to explore.

We are very conscious of how precious your time is and take care to involve you as a parent or primary carer in your child’s day at Auskids Learning. You’re welcome to be as involved as you please. We have a genuine ‘open door’ policy and several events throughout the year to assist in helping you to feel part of the family. We keep child portfolios as documentation of your child’s progressive development. We take care to carefully observe and plan experiences that will enhance, assist and refine the naturally occurring development children display. We will take photographs, anecdotal observations, write learning stories, and include work samples, contributions and quotes from your child. We will provide opportunities for you to contribute to your child’s portfolio and encourage you to do so. You may choose to share a weekend away, a special family celebration or significant event in your family’s life.

At six monthly intervals, educarers will provide you with a developmental summary and invite you to discuss your child’s progress and your goals and expectations for them while attending our educentre.

This is a keepsake record of your child’s time with Auskids Learning and something we expect to become precious to both you and your child.
